As stated in the first sentences of my first post, Apple has done
all sorts of non-virtuous things (and I've been vocal in my
complaints about them--suing bloggers, making a crappy
Airtunes product, preventing me from streaming their DRM to
my Squeezebox, etc.).
However, if you're going to take them to task, all I ask is that
you be accurate in your facts and assumptions. The
Konfabulator saga is not really a good point on which to nail
them. There are better examples of their poor behavior, and
just repeating false stories, or even worse cliches about fanboys
(and believe me, Windows and Linux seem to be just as much
religions as anything Apple-related) is unhelpful, if not
disingenuous.
---Their whole treatment of the digital music market shows me
exactly how they would have acted if they currently had 90% of
the desktop market.---
Who can say? If anything, they're following the incredibly
successful business model pioneered by Microsoft. If MS hadn't
done it first, who knows what trail Apple would have blazed.
Furthermore, what's wrong with how Apple is treating the music
market? They're perfectly within their legal rights to do as
they're doing. Is it the best thing for consumers? No, of course
not, so we have the choice not to patronize the products that
aren't what we want (why I don't buy anything from the iTunes
store, for example). I think legally exploiting your business
advantage is a far cry from illegally leveraging a monopoly (and
getting caught doing so). - Posted by: tic swayback Posted on: 01/10/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
