Brevity is the soul of wit after all wink
>>A breakthrough? That's what I've been saying all along. You don't own the copyright. You don't own the idea.<<

I understand since your argument has changed so many times, you may not remember it. In essence, I believe you are trying to argue:

"Ownership, and ownership of copyright are completely different things."

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pointing out that it's not this distinction that matters, it's ownership of material versus the content. If you now agree that you only own the material and not the content, bravo!

>>What if the content cited is only 999 words? Can I reproduce the whole thing? What if it's for a scholarly article for publication? Do the classroom guides cover it?<<

The test is actually "brevity". The case itself set a maximum limit of 1,000. So no, if the work cited is 999 words, it would fail the brevity test. This site has a good summary of the Classroom Guidelines.

>>But you can't legally do it<<

Why not? There is no law that forbids me from doing so. I'm only breaking the law if I then proceed to drive my car on any streets. I made no mention of doing that, did I? wink

Just because you make assumptions not in evidence doesn't mean that they are correct. It simply means you made another mistake =P

>>Go back and re-read<<

You realize you are quoting an article, not the law itself? Must I re-quote the part of the article that proves you wrong? =P

>>And it's perfectly legal<<

No it wasn't! That's what got SonicBlue SUED! That's why there is no DVR with that technology! DVR's today essentially simply use various forms of fast-forwarding.

>>Never said it wasn't a grey area. Just that there was little doubt. If there's any doubt at all, it's still grey. Just a very light shade of grey.<<

Ah, now who's arguing semantics wink

>>You've declared that I've violated a law, when you yourself admit that it is unclear if that law has been violated<<

No. You've violated the letter of the copyright law. That's beyond question. As repeated sources have stated, the grey area is the ramification of doing so.

>>Is it difficult talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time? Is it a grey area or is it not?<<

I dunno, you seem to be doing a great job of it happy Tell me again about the light shade of grey =P
