Consolidation is good
---YES! But you do not own the contents! You own the phyiscal set! Hoorah! We made a breakthrough!!!---

A breakthrough? That's what I've been saying all along. You don't own the copyright. You don't own the idea. You own that physical instance of the content. Perhaps this is all a semantic misunderstanding. The RIAA/MPAA want you to believe that when you buy a cd/dvd, you're not actually buying anything, you're licensing the content, and that's patently untrue. You are buying something, one copy of that content. You are limited by law as to what you can do with that copy of the content, but make no mistake, you own that one physical copy of the content.

---Awww, that didn't last long sad No. The 1976 amendment to the Copyright Act limits your ability to "reproduce large swathes of text" as you put it to just 1,000 words (or less) and you must conform to the "Classroom Guidelines".---

What if the content cited is only 999 words? Can I reproduce the whole thing? What if it's for a scholarly article for publication? Do the classroom guides cover it?

---No. I stated I could both physically AND legally do it. I have every legal right to remove my catalytic converter. And if you note, I did state that your car may not work after said modification.---

But you can't legally do it. It's against the law (although that law does not apply to non-street race cars). Perhaps I was mistaken in assuming your car was not a race car, but if you drive it to work, it's illegal for you to remove the converter, even if you never take it on the street again. Go back and re-read:
http://autos.yahoo.com/owning/maintain/repairqa/qa.html?question=ques081&category=Exhaust+%26+Muffler&topics=qaemmiss%01qamuffle
WARNING: Federal law makes it illegal for ANYONE to tamper with, disconnect, remove or otherwise render inoperative ANY emissions-related control device.

Before the law was revised in 1990, it was only illegal for professional mechanics to remove or disconnect emission control devices. There was nothing to prevent a motorist from tampering with their own vehicles. That loophole has since been plugged.

---No. The SonicBlue technology didn't just "fast forward", they literally cut out the commercials. That's a big difference from time shifting.---

And it's perfectly legal. There's no law forcing us to watch commercials. That's complete BS. I guess you've given up trying to prove that point, as there is no law like you claimed.

---"You did call it a "gray area" to raise doubt, where there is in fact, very little doubt."
So evidently you previously disagreed that it is a grey area but now you agree it is a grey area?---

Never said it wasn't a grey area. Just that there was little doubt. If there's any doubt at all, it's still grey. Just a very light shade of grey.

--- What guilt? A violation of copyright is a civil, not a criminal matter. As I have stated, you would be infringing on the copyright law. I'm merely pointing out that there is no established precedent to determine penalty of this infringement.---

You've declared that I've violated a law, when you yourself admit that it is unclear if that law has been violated. Is it difficult talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time? Is it a grey area or is it not? If it is, then you can't assume I've infringed.
