>>Wrong. You own a copy of copyrighted material. If I buy a painting, I don't own the copyright to that image, but I sure as hell own that painting, that individual copy of the painting.<<

YES because you own the MEDIUM! You own the canvas, the frame, the whatever. You cannot, however, then proceed to take pictures of your painting and go sell that!

>>Wrong. In my scholarly work, I'm reproducing, word for word, the exact copyrighted content.<<

And if all your scholary work does is exactly quote the original source, that would be ILLEGAL! You can of course quote and reference source material, but you cannot reproduce it verbatim.

>>Best check your own reading skills first. Let me quote for you, your post:
http://news.zdnet.com/5208-1040-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=16420&messageID=327025&start=0
"You aren't even allowed to reproduce it!"<<

Sure, if you skip the next sentence that comes after it. Once again, the exception to the reproduction came AFTER the original copyright law was introduced!

>>WARNING: Federal law makes it illegal for ANYONE to tamper with, disconnect, remove or otherwise render inoperative ANY emissions-related control device.<<

You apparently missed this part from your own article:

"The federal anti-tampering law does not, however, apply to race cars that are not operated on the street, other full-time off-road vehicles, show cars that are not street driven, or vehicles not factory equipped with emission controls (most 1967 and earlier vehicles). So that exempts all antique cars, and most classic cars and muscle cars. "

Still not reading your own sources eh? =P

>>Absolutely wrong. Now you're just making things up. You are completely legally allowed to skip commercials. <<

There is also no law that explicitly states that you can. You can fast-forward which falls under "time-shift" but you will not see a single DVR device that wholly skips commercials. Which is technically possible since commercials are identifiable with a signal flag built into the broadcast but not legally allowed.

>>It does, but there is clear legal precedent falling in favor of fair use. I was trying to clarify your potentially misleading point.<<

Ummm...your own article states that legal precedent does not exist. Need I quote from the EFF site again?

"Fair use is decided by a judge, on a case by case basis"

>>At least I don't make up fake cases and fake laws. Kind of makes it hard to argue when you have to use facts, right? At least I'm smart enough to understand the difference between copyright ownership and ownership of an object.<<

Sorry buddy. Just because the facts don't agree with you don't mean that they aren't true. Your own references support my argument!
