YES because you own the MEDIUM! You own the canvas, the frame, the whatever. You cannot, however, then proceed to take pictures of your painting and go sell that!

And if all your scholary work does is exactly quote the original source, that would be ILLEGAL! You can of course quote and reference source material, but you cannot reproduce it verbatim.

Sure, if you skip the next sentence that comes after it. Once again, the exception to the reproduction came AFTER the original copyright law was introduced!

You apparently missed this part from your own article:

There is also no law that explicitly states that you can. You can fast-forward which falls under "time-shift" but you will not see a single DVR device that wholly skips commercials. Which is technically possible since commercials are identifiable with a signal flag built into the broadcast but not legally allowed.

Ummm...your own article states that legal precedent does not exist. Need I quote from the EFF site again?
