Which means I own the content, but not the copyright. If you steal a Rembrandt from my house, will you be charged with grand theft for a very valuable painting, or petty larceny for a $20 canvas and some paint? Will my insurance company reimburse me for the full value of the work I own, or just $20 for the "medium"?

Let me put it this way. I buy a book, I own that copy, that physical instance of that ink in those shapes that forms that content. If I buy a painting, I own that physical instance of paint and canvas that makes that image, in other words, that content. If I buy a cd, I own that set of 1's and 0's that makes that sound come out of my speakers. That content.

Never said that was all my scholarly work would contain, but I can reproduce large quantities of it verbatim. Unlike what you claimed earlier.

How have I "violated copyright laws just for making a backup copy" when I've reproduced the work in a scholarly work? Your absolutist claim was there to try to reinforce your flawed point. You were talking about one particular instance of reproduction, so stating that "You aren't even allowed to reproduce it!" is blatantly wrong, because as you now admit, you are allowed to reproduce it.

What part of my saying, "just as you are restricted from removing the catalytic converter from your car" made you think that I was referring to race cars that are not driven on the street. Still, you make a good point, as, just like copyright laws state, there are many exceptions that allow reproduction of a work.

Ah. I see. There is no law that explicitly states that I'm allowed to breathe. Am I going to be jailed for breathing now? Do you live in America? Generally, the way things work around here, is that it's legal to do things even when there's "no law that explicitly states that you can."

It is completely legally allowed. Again, you're telling fairy tales and making up laws. Find that law for me, I dare you. I double dog dare you. DVR companies have caved to pressure from the MPAA and are doing this voluntarily, not under compulsion from any law. Stop lying.
