Now you're misquoting yourself
---Yes, and that difference is marked by copyright ownership. Again, you own the MATERIAL. Not the CONTENT. In this case, it's not the object whose ownership is being questioned, it's the intellectual property! The "object" is simply a medium for storing the intellectual property. I really don't know how to make this clearer. This is black letter law, go ask your own lawyer if you need someone to better explain it to you.---

Wrong. You own a copy of copyrighted material. If I buy a painting, I don't own the copyright to that image, but I sure as hell own that painting, that individual copy of the painting. Perhaps you'd like to define that copy as "the canvas and all the paint that's on it in that particular configuration", then fine, that's what I own, just as I own the 1's and 0's on the cd that I purchased.

---Yes, but notice YOU AREN'T REPRODUCING ANYTHING. You also are explicitly FORBIDDEN to create derivative works. Parodies, teachings, research are considered ORIGINAL works. These are things you CREATE hence you gain copyright over it. ---

Wrong. In my scholarly work, I'm reproducing, word for word, the exact copyrighted content. I'm quoting large swaths of copyrighted material verbatim. Go back to your original claim, and re-read what you wrote.

---I guess you still need to work on learning how to read huh? =P What I said was:
"So technically, you've violated copyright laws just for making a backup copy of that CD you bought"----

Best check your own reading skills first. Let me quote for you, your post:
http://news.zdnet.com/5208-1040-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=16420&messageID=327025&start=0
"You aren't even allowed to reproduce it!"

Are you now claiming you did not write this sentence, which is clearly incorrect?

---No, you are free to do this if you are so mechanically inclined. You are not legally barred from doing this. You simply void your manufacturer's warranty and possible destroy your car, but that's your choice. ---

Oh dear. Another lesson in law for you:
http://autos.yahoo.com/owning/maintain/repairqa/qa.html?question=ques081&category=Exhaust+%26+Muffler&topics=qaemmiss%01qamuffle
WARNING: Federal law makes it illegal for ANYONE to tamper with, disconnect, remove or otherwise render inoperative ANY emissions-related control device.

---Perhaps. This doesn't mitigate my point though. You aren't even legally allowed to skip commercials of your own recordings! The best you can do is fast-forward through them.---

Absolutely wrong. Now you're just making things up. You are completely legally allowed to skip commercials. There is no law whatsoever that declares this. Do you also think it's illegal to go to the bathroom during a commercial? Apparently so. Stop making things up.

---Does this not qualify as a "gray area" ---

It does, but there is clear legal precedent falling in favor of fair use. I was trying to clarify your potentially misleading point.

---Go for it. As I have repeatedly stated, you have full ownership of the MATERIAL. NOT the content. You own the physical medium, not the song, the movies, or the story.---

See my links in the thread below. You own a copy of copyrighted material. Please explain again how I don't own the painting I bought, just the physical medium.

---Please, this coming from someone who can't even distinguish between copyright and patent law? You don't own the content period. End of story. This is plain black letter law. Even "fair use" only governs usage NOT ownership!---

At least I don't make up fake cases and fake laws. Kind of makes it hard to argue when you have to use facts, right? At least I'm smart enough to understand the difference between copyright ownership and ownership of an object.

---You've done a great example of showing how you can copy and paste from the EFF site. Your next step should be to actually look up the case law and LEARN the facts---

And your next step will be to actually come up with some facts rather than pulling made up laws out of thin air.
