the prices you quote are simply not realistic for computer usage of an optical drive. they'll have to compete with small, removable hard drives such as this $95, 50-gb device:

and i seriously doubt that any movie studio will put their products out in blue-ray format if they can't stay at least reasonably close in price to that of a conventional dvd (surely no more than a 15-25% premium). think about it: a four-disc special edition set would have materials costs in excess of $400 (okay, give them a 50% cost break and call it $200 just for media)!

back in my engineering days (before retirement), we'd have said that fails the sanity check. happy
