What a crock, but
DRM has nothing to do with putting a Blu-ray or HD DVD player/burner into a pc any more that it has to do with blank CD, Zip drives, Flash drives, or 3.5 floppies. A big butt (two t's on purpose), entertainment content providers (the movie vultures) may be expected to be the major purchasers of raw media so they have become the dog that wags the tail, or the other way around if they aren't the major purchasers.
Sony owns the intellectual rights to the media layer in Blu-ray, and guess who's in the deep DRM ca-ca right now. They can control who they license/sell the layer, as well as the logo, to, and can hold back introduction until they get what they want in DRM. I haven't heard this problem with HD DVD (don't know who manufacturers the layer for it) so maybe HD DVD may just win out for that reason. What if consumers tell both of them to chuck it, either because nobody wants to take a chance on competing formats, it's cost prohibitive, unreasonable DRM, or whatever. We're no worse off than we are today, and that's not too bad. I have lived, and can continue to live, without HD whatever.
