The other side
I took on the job/task. They are my full responsibility. But our country also has laws that are made to help and protect ALL of us, including kids. There are laws saying that they aren't allowed to drive cars and buy alcohol, tobacco, & drugs until a certain age. There are laws keeping them from working 40-hour weeks when school is in session, and laws keeping them in school. There are also laws keeping them out of movies rated R without a parent or adult guardian, and entirely out of movies rated NC-17 and X. (Why is no one complaining loudly about THAT system??? Are games and movies ALL that different?)

It IS easy for people to say "You should watch your kids at all times." (At my kids ages of 4 & 6 it is easy.) But when they are in their teenage years they often want more independence and time without DIRECT parental supervision. It's easy to judge when your're on the other side.

I do not expect kids, and possibly even some parents, to know what is in a game (or movie) without some type of rating system. And I would not expect a 13 year-old to be able to buy a M-rated game any more than I would expect them to be able to buy an X-rated movie.
(I'll address the affect of these things on kids in Spicoli's post.)
I also believe that if a rating system is to exist, there must be well structured guidelines set by people who know what they're doing. Do it right.

I'd like to know what bad will come out of enacting the Video Game Law.
