Hypocrisy
"We don't let kids buy smut or R-rated movies, so why is this any different?"

Because the same rules should apply to video games as apply to other forms of media, like movies. I would have less of a problem if movies we're already held to the same standard. But they aren't. Though, I'm still against censorship. Censorship is deception through omission. And to me, deception is wrong. Of course, the millions of parents who lie to their children every day about such things like Santa Claus would disagree. And the disillusioned children that result learn that their parents can't be trusted. Then go on to smoke and do drugs despite their parent's warnings. One wonders why.

Government shouldn't legislate morality. But it seems both parties would very much like to. The point isn't that parents should be better at watching their children. It is that they should stop treating them like babies and educate them to think for themselves. Nothing is ever perfect, however.
