maybe because it's the best way you can record hdtv. You can much more more storage space, have connection to the internet, have better sceduled recording. If you really want you can record 2 shows at once and watch another. The options are endless. Hdtv's, projectors do connect up to computers these days aswell, you aren't stuck with a 17" monitor. I do agree however that there isn't enough hdtv content and channels out there.
