Basically, what NonZealot Said...
...but with more details.

You put the Media Center PC in your video rack, and it could theoretically replace your DVD player, TiVO, and now your cable box, plus add some capability.

Although everyone I know with a Media Center PC has had nothing but trouble with them. And the DRM stuff just scares me.
