- So what exactly do you call a system of government where the people elect a government? The Swedes have a mixed economy, not a socialist one and arguably so does the USA. It is just a matter of degree of the government intervention. Is the UK by your standards a ?socialist? economy if they are how do you explain that they have been a democracy far longer the then USA? The ultimate outcome without government intervention is a monopoly and more expensive prices for the consumer. You are talking like a Bushite, out of step with the world and reality.
