Dumb is not synonymous with illiterate
Let us not confuse innate ability with the posession of a particular skill. As some of the posts here on ZDNet indicate, one can be minimally literate and still be dumb as a box of rocks.

That said, it probably *would* be more useful to spend the money being poured into these cheap PC projects on something more useful, like basic literacy and health care. But that wouldn't be nearly as profitable for nearly as many corporations.

It's a case of following the money, as usual.
