- What about remote offices
-
First a note to the idiots who flame about the war. This is an issue about technology, and taxes. Keep your forums straight. Go back to democrat underground if you want to flame about the war, or read off your conspiracy theories to your 10 cats. Whatever it is you do with your time.
Now to the tax issue. Businesses pay taxes to the state they do business in. That compensates the state for services provided and contribute to the citizens of that state. A local employee who commutes is using services such as fire, EMT, and poilce. They should contribute. However, someone who never steps foot in the state should not be taxed. They aren't using any services, and get no vote. The business pays the business tax so his economic activity is taxed by the state in a way.
If the state they live in chooses to impose a tax then that person is taking advantage of the local services and should pay. This is no different than if I opened a remote office for a company headquartered in NY. The employees of the remote office should not have to pay NY taxes. Here in PA for local taxes it works out nicely. If you live in one township and work in another you aren't double taxed. Instead I'm taxed once and the money is split between the 2 townships. If they commute it should be split, and if they telecommute it should be nothing. - Posted by: mikelpg Posted on: 11/02/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
