Cable TV sells
It's pretty much the same concept. Rental stores do well too.

Many people pay for Cable Tv and buy DVDs of movies they rented. There is just so much so so music out that just as there is so-so TV and so-so movies. You know the movie term "It's a Rental", meaning you won't buy the movie and won't pay to see it in theatre.

There is lots of music I'd download and listen to once just to see what it's like. That's what subscription services are for.
