As I remember Apple fought the Apple II clones as well

and often won did they not? Still the arguement was more
towards the Mac clones I thought and by them Apple had firmly
established itself as a Hardware company and the transition "IF"
it could have been done at all was the problem for Apple going
from Hardware to Software and would that have left Apple with
ANY interest in hardware like the iMac and iPod after such a
transition "IF" that could have been pulled of at he time?

Now I can't think of a PC company that is equally a hardware and
software company. Dell...nope. MS dables in hardware but not
really. Apple does a pretty good job of both software and
hardware but still gets the lioins share of it's revenue from
hardware. Remove that hardware and would Apple have had the
money or interest in developing other products?

Still my original arguement did not go back to the begining
where Apple might have made another choice and perhaps
become todays MS...Yikes! It was further down the road to
where the Mac clone experiment was going on...and not so well
for Apple itself.
