Apple cuts the TV out of TV programming

Well, that's why firmware updates and new equipment: are a boy's best friend. Even the broadcast flag must rely on newere devices that'll respect it, which is of course why the media will find and force different and new technologies so that you upgrade from a perfectly capable and open device to a crippled and policed device with all manner of id markers to markup content as belonging to serial number xyz and locking down content.

Hollywood won't be happy until they've got you buying the brick of the month to thwart "those darned pirates" or the consumer as they like to call and fleece them.
