Apple cuts the TV out of TV programming

Check those prices again: ---$1.99 per show vs a PVR that can record any show you want
at any time only for the price of purchase---

Plus the monthy cable/satellite television bill.

Plus the monthly PVR subscription bill (unless you roll your own,
then factor in hardware costs plus the time necessary to build
it).

---and you can than burn those shows to DVD or do what ever
with them---

Not really. The broadcast flag is quickly making this a thing of
the past. Some shows you can't even record, some shows you
can record but they get automatically deleted after a short time,
