I agree and disagree
I think you over-estimated the effort to recored with PVR/DVR is not as hard as you think.
"To record a show yourself you must figure out when (and if) it will be showing and if it is the one you want, set your device to record it, wait for it to be recorded and then transfer it to your computer and/or your mobile device."
Most of the shows people constantly record, are automatically recorded using the series setting.
Also I doubt that any of the newer shows will put out their shows for purchase, before the shows is out on TV. Meanwhile, companies like TIVO are putting out PVRs that can download the shows directly from the DVR.
While you're right that people will want to pay a couple of dollars rather than download the shows and go throught the effort. I think, just like music, most at this time won't. It's harder to watch videos while driving, walking, jogging, bicyling, etc.
Personally I love Apple's concept, but I think it will take longer than music to flourish.
