- RE: True but,

Did you notice that every mother for socket A (462) had to have a new northbridge, or if your lucky a BIOS upgrade to run a new Athlon or Duron?
You do have a point on the memory, somewhat, but that depends on who made the nortbridge (Past tense).
Still I've found AMD's to be somewhat frustrating. I always need something to upgrade. Here's why:
I wanted to change from a 1.2 Athlon T-bird to a Palimino Core I needed a new board. Does the new board support my older video, sound? NOT always The same thing happened with the Barton core Athlon XP. These motherboards were Asus and Soyo, so AMD has been just as bad as Intel in some areas. With Intel I know to expect, not so with AMD.
Now, AMD motherboards are backwards compatible with older Athlons and Durons, but short sighted with the new AMD chips.(AMD must own VIA stock)
I see the same happening now with the new socket 754 and 939. The first thing you need is a BIOS upgrade. Some of the newer FX x2 Athlons won't run on a few months old socket 939 board....Hmmm and no BIOS support. AMD I wonder and I sure wish they make up their mind.
Right now I'll stick with my socket A untill things change and stabilize. - Posted by: Krazyken39 Posted on: 10/13/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
