If you don't have a HDTV, you're limited to 480i anyway. Unless if you have a EDTV, in which case you are limited to 480p. So what does it matter if a console is capable of outputing the sharpest details if you can't even see it?

No, as someone else mentioned, the cores are specialized. Therefore, the one general purpose CPU is a bottleneck. It can render graphics and sound lightning fast, but when it computes how the enemy soldier is going to react to your bullet, it requires serial processing. With the 360, you have 3 parallel processing units.

That's not true, the current gen PS2 makes a very slim profit (about $20 or so) on every unit. All consoles generally MAKE money towards the end of the lifecycle (production comes down greatly after four years of producing the same thing with practically no changes and no new tech). I'm not arguing that the bulk of the money comes from console sales, I'm just pointing out that Sony is already in debt and losing $200-$400 per console is probably more than they can afford. MS lost $4 BILLION to get Xbox to second place. How much is Sony silling to lose to make PS3 first? Remember, gaming is pretty much the only protifable unit Sony has left. How much red ink will they be willing to take?
