I'm one of 3 server admins that oversee close to 300 Windows servers in the enterprise.

Most are IBM with a few Dells from companies we have acquired. The Dells all have had numerous issues and have VERY POOR BUILD QUALITY. Tech support has also been abysmal where I had to argue with someone to get a hard drive shipped to replace one that failed in a RAID Array.

Contrast that with IBM where I call, talk to someone in Atlanta, GA (not New Dheli, India) who speaks English and understands the engineering of all the components in the server. I tell them what's going on and within 10 minutes I have a case # with a part on the way.

We used to be an IBM shop on the PC side and things were good. Rock solid reliability and things were great. Then we went to Dell. What a mistake. While I don't do the PC side of things, from the techs I talk to, the Dells are POS with the Optiplex'es loosing network connectivity and compatibility issues with the monitor's USB hub and Windows, etc.

The laptops (D600/800) are utter garbage with a build quality and reliability worse than a Yugo. Pick one up by the corner and watch it flex. Type on the keyboard and watch it twist and bend. The reliability from what I hear has also been POOR.

Needless to say, we're now switching to HP, which may be better.

Either way, they can pry this Thinkpad from my cold, dead hands. I'll buy my own laptop rather than use one of the POS Dells they give us. Or do to it what I've done to our servers - cover the logos with "POS" stickers so all are reminded what a POS they are....
