You miss my point
As a staunch Conservative Republican, I am very much aware of the idea that everyone is personally accountable for their actions and their station in life if they have not put forth their best efforts to elevate themselves out of said conditions.

However, not everyone in the U.S. can afford a computer - there are millions of children in low-income "fly-over" states without decent technology in the homes (let alone the classrooms) only because the standard of living there does not allow for luxury purchases such as laptops or even desktop computers.

Sure, they are making more than enough money to live comfortably by their standards and the cost of homes may be cheaper there too. But Dell doesn't sell laptops in different parts of the country based on the standard of living there. A $1,000 Dell laptop sold in Beverly Hills still costs $1,000 in Bode, Iowa - and I can tell you that $1,000 goes a lot further there and is worth a lot more than it does in 90210!

Giving kids in other countries a technological lead of kids in the U.S. will only end up hurting the future of the U.S.

So, when the next wave of outsourcing heads to one of those countries helped by MIT - you have just lost any priveleage to say anything about it - just keep your mouth shut and bite your lip.
