- Here's Why I Quit Buying Them
-
I quit buying Palms for three reasons: Non-replaceable batteries, color screens, and meaningless pseudo-improvements.
When I bought my first Palm, one of the coolest things about it was that it ran for three or four weeks on a set of AAA batteries. Perfect. I carried an extra set around with me, and life was good. Once I bought a Vx, everything changed. Suddenly, I needed to think about charging the thing when I was away from home, and worrying about losing data if I couldn't charge it. Strike One. Next was color screens. Who cares??? A color screen shortens battery life, adds little as far as functionality, and turns a simple, functional, cool device into something it was never intended to be. Strike Two. The last reason I quit buying Palms is because the "improvements" that were made to the device were meaningless to me. The color screen was only one in a long list of non-improvements that made me rethink my strategy. Of course the device needs to evolve and grow, but I don't think I'm alone in wishing they had taken care of integrated Wi-Fi long ago. Bluetooth? Who cares. MP3s? Yeah, right. Being able to pick up my e-mail at Starbucks? Now THERE'S an improvement.
So did I buy a Windows-based PDA? Nope. I dumped the whole routine all together. About a year ago, I went the 3x5 card/Hipster PDA route, and I'm glad I did. I've been using Palm devices since the Pro, but they're just not Palm devices anymore. For me, Palm is dead. Dead as hell. - Posted by: bobdob_z Posted on: 09/27/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
