- No conspiracy necessary; it's still troubling . . .
-
You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to see all of the wreckage in the wake of the M$ machine (and, yep, I use XP, Office, Visio, even IE, etc.). Someone has a great idea and threatens the machine. Gates gets worried, purchases their soul and sells us a hollow imitation of the original.
Here's what we can look forward to:
An OS and applications with an increasing appetite for memory, a clunky and bloated, allegedly "user-friendlier" GUI, conveniently mysterious APIs (that somehow only the insiders know about), etc.
The bottom line: fewer simple, lean, effective freeware applications. But that's okay, we'll need a gig just to support the basics anyway, so why should the apps be lean?
Now all we need is for Symantec to join the coalition and suck up whatever resources the OS hasn't already consumed with "indispensable" always-on security software . . . oh, and that lovely pay (and pay and pay and pay) as you go licensing model. - Posted by: joelmw_z Posted on: 09/27/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
