Good Grief!
...a comsumer like me who has to reboot XP2 Pro aleast once a day even after more than 3 clean installations.

Now that IS strange. Not normal to say the least. I've had the same install of XP on one machine since it was built 3 yrs ago. I rarely ever have to reboot the box except for the odd software installation that requires it. The only other time the computer gets booted would be following a power failure and those tend to be rare.

And the machine does a LOT more than sit idle. It does everything from mundane tasks like e-mail to recording video via a tuner card.

Given the situation, perhaps you've got a device (or devices) that may be misbehaving? Sounds like a hardware problem given the limited info you've given.
