Of all the distros.....: Quite obviously, you have missed out on exactly how Linux is designed. Bloatware is NOT a term I would attempt to lay on Mandriva. Their distro does come with a plethora of options, but the beauty of it is you get a chance to pick and choose what you want or need, and leave the rest for other machines to run. And as to slow, one has to wonder exactly what hardware you run to make this claim. I have found Mandriva to be MUCH faster in operation than most of the bloated Windows variants. And if you find the desktop 'draggy' why not try one of the alternates? Icewm and XFCE4 come to mind, with many of the features of the 'bigger' desktop front ends, but more nimble and less demanding on lower end machines. Depending on what machine I put it on, Mandriva can be configured to run to best effect on them by choosing the items and front end most suitable for that machine. NOT something you can do with XP! As for Gentoo, just try compiling your system from scratch on an older Pentium class machine, and die of boredom as you WAIT forever for it to compile itself, if you can get it to run in the first place and then get the bloody thing to sort out dependancies and get your updates/packages from the servers.
