- Runs fine on laptops,
-
Between work and home, I have four laptops from PIII and up that run perfectly under Linux. In fact, they run much better than they did under Windows. Only the newest has WinXP on it, but it also has Ubuntu, FreeBSD, and Solaris.
Funny thing... The local Linux User Group has always had several people lugging their whole desktop systems to the meetings. The last time I went, it was nothing but laptops. Easily 30 people sitting around with their favorite shiny distro.
I can't imagine that everything is perfect with some laptops that build everything into them under Linux, but neither is it with Windows.
I actually prefer my oldest laptop over the new one. Each release of Linux seems to run faster on it, it's small and light, and the batteries last over 2 hours longer than the big new laptop.
Linux is just fine on most laptops I've seen. Some distros don't have it all together yet, but the 4 or 5 that I've used seem to do ok. I'm sure any distro a major manufacturer like Dell chooses will have their full support getting things working before they are shipped.
Not certain this will have wild success, but you never know. It will happen, just a matter of when. - Posted by: dingletec_z Posted on: 09/16/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
