The great thing about this is HARDWARE SUPPORT
One of the greatest problems with desktop Linux has been lack of hardware support. Much of this problem derives from the fact that desktop Linux has been mainly an aftermarket 'add on' and due to that fact the hardware vendors have not been supporting Linux with proprietary drivers. Support for just about every major feature is already included in Linux, with proprietary drivers being the missing link between the hardware and the software. Now that Linux is being provided by the (major) hardware vendors themselves, it will be imperitive that those proprietary drivers be included AND preconfigured. And the reinstall disk that comes with the system will be designed to install and preconfigure those drivers in case a resinstall is necessary. If this does not happen, the hardware vendor, as well as the Linux vendor will suffer the loss of good will in the process. On the other hand, including them will make an incredible difference in the performance of Linux and also of its perception in the eyes of the user. So in that regard, this will be just another small step forward for Linux on the desktop.
