Archive those tapes
A few years back I bought a digital-analog bridge (buy one now
while they're still legal). I bought one of the Dazzle ones available
at the time, which has standard audio and video connectors, then
hooks to my computer via FireWire. Plug the VCR into it, and the
Mac thinks it's a video camera, so you can directly dump all your
old videotapes into iMovie, then burn them to DVD. Handy for all
those old tv shows that may never be shown again, and a lot more
durable than the tapes.
