If Apple are going to launch a video-pod then presumably it would use Apple's QuickTime format and the new H.264 codec. However, QuickTime 7 is still in beta for Windows PC's and the the H.264 requires some beefy hardware for encoding and decoding. The latest pc's can do this but a mobile processor in an ipod?
Alternatively how about a camera that mounts onto the firewire connection of the ipod, which allows you to shoot video and record it straight to the ipod's hard-disk. Firewire is fast enough for this, though the hard-disk probably requires a minimum 5,400rpm speed. With such a video attachment you would effectively have the same as JVC's new series of Everio hard-disk based camcorders. - Posted by: sj_z Posted on: 08/30/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
