That's what I'm thinking

I understand the idea of convergence--it'd be really nice to carry
around one small item rather than 4 or 5 (phone, iPod, palm
pilot, blackberry, etc), but that one device has to be able to do
everything as well as the items it is going to replace.

Unless the phone has the same high audio quality, ease of use,
interface and storage capacity as an iPod, I just don't see the
point. What's the great advantage in being able to download a
song from your phone? Maybe once every 5 years you're
somewhere away from a computer and you absolutely need to
hear a song, but how often does that happen? Is that enough to
justify the high cost this phone will require? How much hard
drive space will the phone have--would you buy an iPod that
could only hold 30 songs?

I think this whole movement by the phone industry is yet
another example of trying to create a niche where there's no
consumer desire. A smarter business plan is to fill a niche that
already exists but is not being served.
