Some perspective

1) My first computer was a Timex/Sinclair TS1000 (ZX81 on steroids)

2) My preferred NOS is Novell NetWare 6.5 - I've been using NetWare since 2.15

3) My first PC was a 80486DX50 (not a clock doubler)

4) I didn't start using Windows 2000 until SP3 came out. I still won't touch XP.

5) I won't buy a Mac for myself.

HOWEVER - when people ask me, "What kind of computer I should buy? Dell or HP?" I think about what kind of user they are. 9 times out of 10 they are your basic Internet surfing, worm loving, virus ridden, spam mongers who couldn't tell you that there are actually 8 levels to the ISO/OSI model (the 8th being "Religion" )

So, keeping that in mind and not wanting them to call me when something on their new computer I suggested them to buy breaks, I tell them - "Get a Mac"

Then I point them to the Mini. Yep, a bit more expensive but small and stylish. More importantly Mac OS X is based on BSD (Unix) and is generally (like 1000x) more secure than Windows. The hardware is usually better than anything they can get for the same money in the PC world.

But the last word is - it likely won't have problems and I won't be stuck supporting it.

Now that I think about it, I might get a Mac myself...
