You can buy it with out those and basically you have game console that will only play X-box2 games in standalone mode.

Pay the extra $100 and you play DVD movies, play older X-Box games, store music/video, play online (out of the box), and have wireless.

Is the X-box 360 useless with the basic model. I'd say it could be depending on what you want it for. If you have to also buy at least one new game, buy an online subscription, and buy a remote to watch DVDs then it is kind of useless. Might as well pay the extra $100.
