Microsoft's patents
Hi, Scott.

Normally, I'd be one of the last people on earth to defend Microsoft, but I do have to say that it's unreasonable to expect Microsoft not to patent its software whenever possible. No company can survive without protecting it's intellectual property.

Personally, I don't like what I've seen of Windows Mobile (although it's been awhile since I've seen a device, so take that with a grain of salt). But I think what we're talking about here is a software-agnostic device, not a device that only runs on Windows. While I might not be eager to rush out and buy a Windows handheld (I personally like the Palm interface better), I'd certainly buy something that gave me the choice of running Windows, Palm, or Linux. It just makes sense to me to diversify.
