Domino theory?

Why would the government /have/ to take over the pension plans? Where in the constitution does it guarantee everyone the right to a government bailout?

Same question. When did "welfare" become a right? TANSTAAFL.

The "right" of the "big 3" car companies to a guaranteed existence is non-existent. They, like every other individual, corporate or otherwise, have the right to /compete/ for their own survivals; they don't have a right to win. And if they can't compete against $8/day labor or whatever, maybe they should smarten up and invent new techniques, new prodicts, new /something/ they /can/ compete at.

The Roman Empire was, economically, wildly successful. As a result of that success, Roman industry and agriculture variously stagnated or packed it in altogether--it was cheaper to import (looted) resources from conquered provinces. But then the Empire ran out of provinces to conquer and loot. By that time, the Roman culture had completely lost its ability to be self-sufficient and collapsed.

/That/ is the fate of any complacent economic model, national, corporate--or individual.
