That is nonsense
If there is one thing they do worry about it is the iPod. The
Newton owned the market because it was the only one in the
market. Then Palm came along with a better product. You expect
me to believe that Microsoft can make a better iPod? These
bright boys repeated the Newton's failure on a grander scale and
called it a tablet PC. iPod will continue to dominate. Why?
1. Why do people call a soft drink a Coke? The same reason that
an MP3 player is often called an iPod. When you get to this level
everyone advertizes for you.
2. Just like those who buy a PC and not an Apple the argument is
who has the most software and hardware. iTunes is the software
(80% market share) and every store (even if they don't sell iPod)
has the hardware. This morning's paper had an ad section for a
clothing store where the front page showed a back pack with a
slot in the strap for an iPod mini. Would a Dell player fit? Of
course not, who buys one of those? Not enough to have a
dedicated accesory market. What all other MP3 players must fear
the worst is happening. It is no longer just the luxury cars like
Jag, Volvo and BMW with the iPod stereo connectors, Scion now
has one. The ultimate youth market car + iPod. Now it Toyota
spreads that connection protocol to all their cars then the battle
for hearts and minds is truly over. iPod becomes the new CD.
