Mixed Feelings
Honestly I think the original idea to sell the iPod was a smart move. HP's brand image sucks and they were going to offer the most popular digital music player available, without having to "invent" anything. Just slap their name on it and run with it. Reinventing their image with the iPod could have been huge, but like so many other opportunities, they've failed to throw their $80 billion weight into any particular direction.

So that being said maybe its not so bad they're calling it off, considering it just wasn't going anywhere. Like their LCD and Plasma TVs and their Digital Entertainment Centers and countless other really cool devices that HP offers/has offered they blew whatever opportunity they had. How many people, wanting an iPod would think to go to www.hp.com when they didn't know HP sold iPods.

HP can't decide if they wanna be IBM or Dell, I just hope this move isn't an indication which direction they're leaning.
