I know the tech is not there yet but...
I would envision Nursing Homes and in general elderly care to
be a huge market for the right kind of robot. Today I see
underpaid and poorly supervised and trained human beings
doing a real demanding and tough job...sometimes with
disasterous and cruel results. ie the many stories of Nursing
Home abuse that disgust me. A robot could take care of the
elderly and NEVER suffer from stress or becoming tired or simply
not interested in a patient. A robot could listen to the same
story a thousand times and respond and interact with the same
level of interest that a human being could never match. A robot
could be programmed to be kind and attentive and responsive
on levels that a human being simply could not match. The robot
could interact, clean and monitor patience on a 24/7 basis at the
same alert level that a person might never be able to match.
