Fuzzy math

Clearly this is something of a grey area, depending on what
numbers a company releases, and then there's still all sorts of
wiggle room. When MS sells a copy of Windows to BestBuy and it
sits on their shelf unsold, that still counts as part of their
marketshare for example. So you're never going to get the
specific measure that you'd like. Apple won't release the
number of Mini's they've sold, they include that number in with
other desktop computers.

Well, you did state, "Not to mention, one quarter sales hardly
demonstrates a pattern," so my intention was to show Apple's
sales numbers have steadily climbed each quarter over the past
year, establishing a pattern. No, that doesn't show you exact
marketshare percentage, but given that Apple's sales increases
are at a higher level than that seen for much of the market, one
can extrapolate from there.

---Where is the quarter over quarter marketshare growth
numbers?---

If you can find them, I'd love to see them, but again, I'm not
really going to have much faith in them for the reasons listed
above.

I think this is more of a worry about the coming quarters when
we get close to the release of the Mactel machines. Right now,
with those a year away, people can't wait that long, so sales are
still doing well. When you get 2 or 3 months away, then you'll
see PPC sales drop, as people can afford to wait for the new
machines. Personally (depending on how they are priced), I
expect to see Apple's marketshare climb dramatically once the
Mactels are out on the market. They'll pick up a lot of sales to
cautious customers who are interested in switching, but don't
want to take the risk or to re-buy software or give up games.
With a machine that can run Windows and OSX, the Mactels will
be at a decided advantage (assuming the prices are in line with
equivalent Windows only machines).
