If you want to start thinking before conversing, then re-read my OPs and the line of my replies to the ones' of the responders.

Let me help you out: A piece of code becomes flawed at the earliest point in time that it is identified as such.

Now that someone IDENTIFIED this latest MS windows flaw, the this code IS flawed. I cannot see where you are getting confused. Before it was "NOT" one.

Vincense (am I spelling it right?) we judge the quality or value of systems, products, etc. by comparing them against well defined standards and other comparable systems. Overall we try to quantify the Performance/Cost ratio.

Let System S_x have Performace P_x and Cost C_x, then system S_1 has better value or utility IF

P_1/C_1 > P_2/C_2

Otherwise you are paying more to get the same (or less) value.

S/w is imperfect and thus defects are always present. However, we CAN say that a piece of s/w S_1 solving a particular problem is better (MORE SECURE for instance) than another piece of s/w S_2 IF
P_1/C_1 > P_2/C_2 as above.

Simply this means that we judge one as better than the other when we get a MORE secure system when the costs are comparable.

Take for instance, 2 platforms that run on comparable h/w (eg, x86 or AMD, etc.) and prvide comparable features. Say MS windows and FreeBSD. We can say FBSD is more secure since the defects of windows are much higher than those in FBSD (verify in www.cert.org) and FBSD costs <<<<< than MS windows cost.

In terms of Utility/Cost ms windows is at the BOTTOM in all attributes (stability, efficiency, security). When you use UNIX your cost goes up, but the perfomance in terms of the above, is solid. Not ALL UNIX implementations are top quality but you use only those that fit your Utility/Cost.

If you want to defend ms windows then you can start by determining the utility vs cost and compare it with alternative systems.
