The last time, a hard drive is exactly what it was.

And I had another Inspiron just like it. I TOLD the guy with the thick accent that I had tested it in another machine and it did NOT work correctly in that one EITHER (slow boot, frequent hangs accessing files on it, etc.).

Know what he said to me? "I see here by your records Mr. OhBee that you originally ordered it with Windows 2000 Workstation Professional installed on it. Why for do you keep saying to me that you have Windows XP Professional on it?"

I explained to him the free upgrade policy Dell had when XP was just coming out, at which point he said something like "I need to suggest that for you to confirm that it is not a problem with your upgrade that you reinstall the original operating system to confirm that it is not a problem with your upgrade."

I told him that I had been running XP on it for about a year so we could be sure there WAS no problem with the upgrade.

Then he repeated that to honor the terms of the extended warranty they would need me to reinstall Windows 2000 Pro.

I exploded, he transferred me to a gal with a TERRIFIC southern accent, I got the hard drive about a week later, set it up and it has been running fine ever since.

I wouldn't have been talking to Mahatma in the FIRST place if even ONE of my numerous emails to Dell support had been answered.
