Just let the students choos
While there may be some courses that are platform specific most
students should be able to choose the computer they want to
use. A lot, in fact, might have one from high school that will
take care of their needs.

For those having to buy a computer for college the prime issue
may be cost. Apple did very well last year with their iPod
promotion (getting up to 60% of the market in some university
book stores) and this year is giving students a free iPod mini
with each computer bought. Others are going to offer just as
attractive deals.

I'm suffering from a case of envy for students today. Having
gone to university in the 60's our "high tech" was the hand held
calculator (which cost around $100) and our computing
experience was held to punch cards - and the programs were
generally limited to 12 cards unless you were in an advanced
class. Regardless of the platform students choose they beat the
hell out of what we had!
