Waiting on it to take off to have drivers out, also means the OS will take longer to actually take off, since not a great many people will buy an "unsupported" OS, especially one as expensive as Microsoft's. I bet M$ made sure they had all their stock drivers from regular XP ported over, still third party HW verndors (IHVs) would have provide their drivers, otherwise the situation would be identical to that of Linux, where all HW support depends on the OS rather than the people responsible for the hardware (except a few notable companies, of course), however in this regard (from what I've read, anyway) Linux "out of the box" in 64-bit mode is more compatible with more hardware than XP-64... Don't take my word for granted, that's what some users have said, I've not seen any serious studies at Tom's HW or Anandtech (if they're serious enough) regarding this issue, which in my opinion is key for the broad addoption of any new software platform, and one of the reasons Linux, *BSD, BeOS and others have suffered: lack of support from IHVs which make more difficult addoption.
