make it easy for joe sixpack
If you have a plethora of remotes:

One for the TV, one for the Home theater reciever, one for the DVD play, etc.

One of the things JAVA may allow for, is for each device to announce what it is, what it can do, and expose it's fucntions to a single remote, or to the central system.

This would simplify things greatly for the average consumer.

It would be nice if the remote controls had a button labeled "watch movie" that when pressed, did the following:

1) queried the system to it's current settings.
2) turned on the DVD player if necessary (or ignored it if not)
3) switched the receiver to the appropriate input
4) set the TV to the appropriate input if necessary.

all without anyone having to program any codes, or macros or anything into the remote.

makes it extremely easy for someone to simply watch a movie.

As more features come out in DVD's, you can buy a new player, or do a software update to the JAVA based unit.
