Here's the problem ...
ZDNet had an aticle a couple of years ago (can't find it to provide link), that discussed the dilemma of Pinter Manfacturers, and after market ink suppliers.

The Big Manufacturers(HP, Lexmark etc) all sell their printers for substantially less than what they should be sold for (i.e. and don't quote me on the numbers - a Bubble jet printer that sell for $100 costs them $95 to make) - they do this for two reasons, nobody wants to spend the money they really SHOULD be on buying printers, and they are hoping to make the money back in consumables.)

The after market Ink/Cartridge guys see an opportunity and jumped in - rigtfully so - but here in lies the dilemma. If HP and Lexmark don't start making their money back on cartridges and consumables, they will HAVE to start charging the REAL price for the actuall printer - gone will be the days of a $65 Cannon printer - the cheapest brand name printer you will find will be about $200 ... and you know that $300 laser printer you can buy? Poof - it's now $600.

I do respect the aftermarket ink cartridge guys for finding a business, but they don't seem to realize the damage they are doing - I tell all of my clienst to buy only original cartridges, and ink for two reasons, to support the companies that gave us a break on the printer, and because in my experience, after market and refurb consumables just aren't nearly as good.

As always, just my opinion, take it or leave it ...
