rental model
One of the most evil new business model is the DRM scheme that involves having to keep paying to have the right to use the product.

Isn't this the standard cable TV model (stop paying for it and stop receiving it)? Isn't this the NetFlix built on this model?

I used to rent movies for $5 for 5 days. Why should I be upset that I have to return the movies after 5 days?

One of our local video stores has a $10/month, unlimited movie rentals. Not having cable TV, I find this a great way to get movies -- commercial free no less. For some reason I'm not too upset that I have to return the 3 movies I already watched when I pick up my next 3.

That said, if I buy a CD and want to rip it to MP3s so that I can play the music through my computer headphones (which is the only place that I listen to music) then I should be allowed to do so under fair use.
