Don't count on this lasting for ever
Don't be surprised that in the near future your PVR will not be able to skip commercials anymore. Broadcasters, along with movie studios and the record industry don't like to change their business model. When they don't get their way they employee their payed scumbags in Congress to pass draconian laws to maintain the statues quo and extract as much money from the consumer as they feel is fair.

One of the most evil new business model is the DRM scheme that involves having to keep paying to have the right to use the product. The new Napster comes to mind. Sure you can download as much as you want, but stop paying and you got nothing. Watch for this to come to your PVR soon too. A society where no one will be able to own anything, just keep paying forever.
