Probably not ...
To anyone who has used PalmOS for any period of time, there is little doubt that PalmOS is superior to PocketPC -- both in terms of available APPS and in terms of overall stability. But it doesn't matter.

Rememeber BetaMAX? The Apple Macintosh was the technologically superior model for Windows (and both were derived from the Xerox-invented WYSIWYG paradigm) but -- thanks to its premium price-points, Apple never could quite stop Microsoft -- despite its technical superiority and overwhelming user-friendliness.

Like it or not, PalmSource remains inextricably tied to PalmOne and PalmOne suffers from insufficient capitalization to be able to compete against Microsoft-supported OEMs.

To make matters worse, Palm has to keep up on two fronts. On the PDA front -- against PocketPC -- and on the cellular front against PocketPC and Symbian smartphones as well as the RIM BlackBerry.

The number of PalmOS software developers which are now offering both PocketPC & BlackBerry ports to the software is growing dramatically.

BlackBerry offers a greater challenge to PalmOS in many respects because it offers all of the standard PDA trappings and, in an enterprise environment, it does so without the need for PC-based synchronization.

Cellular is certainly a premium service compared to a PDA without any wireless capability but the BlackBerry can provide much of tyhe functionality of a desktop PC as well as a traditional PDA and do it at prices comparable to the cost of broadband services in the home.

PalmOS and PocketPC both remained tied to the PC. This is not good for eithe4r of them but it is LESS GOOD for PalmOS.
